Founded by Rudolf Hauschka, WALA Heilmittel GmbH has been developing natural remedies since 1935. As a result of a collaboration with Elisabeth Sigmund, a cosmetologist who developed facial care recipes using WALA's natural products, the first skin care items launched in 1967. Today WALA operates under two divisions: WALA Medicines and Dr. Hauschka Skin Care. Both categories are committed to the use of natural ingredients and the rhythms of nature in their products.
Why we choose to partner with Dr. Hauschka
Ceres Organics' partnership with Dr. Hauschka developed from the personal experiences and connections of its founding members. All the founders of Ceres Organics were members of the Anthroposophical Society and one of the founders, Juliet Lamont, had lived in Germany where she discovered Dr. Hauschka's skincare line. Juliet recognised the potential for Dr. Hauschka products in New Zealand and in 1985, Ceres Organics placed its first order of product, marking the beginning of a significant partnership.
In 1987 a Dutch esthetician moved to New Zealand and sought out Ceres Organics as the local distributor for Dr. Hauschka. Having trained in Germany she was well-versed in the brand and provided training sessions for store owners and estheticians across the country, helping to educate the New Zealand market and solidify the brands presence and reputation.
How does Dr. Hauschka help us live organic every day?
Dr. Hauschka embodies a commitment to sustainability through several key practices:
Organic Sourcing
Dr. Hauschka have been focused on the idea of sustainability since long before this was coined as a term. Natural cycles and the power of vital, raw materials form the basis of all Dr. Hauschka products.
By primarily sourcing plants, oils, and waxes from controlled organic cultivation and biodynamic farms, Dr. Hauschka ensures that the ingredients are free from harmful chemicals. This choice promotes healthier ecosystems and encourages sustainable agricultural practices.
Resource Conservation
The company’s dedication to conserving resources, such as using 100% certified green electricity, heat recovery systems, and composting production waste reduces its environmental footprint.
With over 50 years of experience in producing cosmetics from natural ingredients Dr. Hauschka actively promotes safer products for consumers and contributes to protecting our ecosystems from microplastics.
Sustainable Packaging
The use of easy-to-recycle packaging materials reflects a commitment to minimising waste, encouraging customers to choose products that align with their values of sustainability and organic living.
Support for Fair Trade
By fostering partnerships with fair trade suppliers, such as those providing shea butter and Damask rose oil, Dr. Hauschka contributes to social responsibility and economic stability in farming communities. This holistic approach encourages consumers to support products that empower producers while promoting organic cultivation methods.
Through initiatives like working with the World Hunger Organisation to provide alternatives to opium cultivation, Dr. Hauschka not only helps farmers transition to organic methods but also educates communities about sustainable practices, fostering a broader culture of organic living.
